The Benefit Advice Shop was set up in April 1988 by the community in response to a need within the community. We offer advice and provide help and support due to the constant changes and increase of the Welfare Benefits system.
The Benefit Advice Shop has its main office in the West of Rhyl and also have outreaches based in Abergele, Prestatyn and Colwyn Bay. The aims of the Benefit Advice Shop are to ensure that no person loses out financially due to a lack of information or understanding of the Welfare Benefits System by providing free, independent, professional advice. We aim to alleviate poverty and reduce social exclusion through maximization of income.

The basic philosophy of the Benefit Advice Shop is that everybody is entitled to adequate information, advice and guidance on the Welfare Benefit System and that such a service is vital to ensure that the general public is properly informed and assisted with their legal entitlements.

If you would like us to act on your behalf or you need us to follow up your enquiry further, we will need details from you such as your Name, N.I. The Benefit Advice Shop provides free professional advice and representation at appeal tribunals. We specialise in welfare benefits appeals to the First-tier Tribunal and applications for permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal. We can assist you to understand the legal process to challenge a negative benefit decision.
We are able to advise you step-by-step on the appeals process and help you to prepare for your tribunal hearing. We understand that going to a tribunal is very stressful and can be a lengthy process. Many people are confused by the process of challenging a decision. Many may become overwhelmed with paperwork and do not know where to start.
As your nominated representative The Benefit Advice Shop will guide you through the process. We can assist you to provide your own additional evidence to support the appeal which may include medical evidence or supporting statements The appeals process can be daunting and it is important to present the best possible case at every stage in the proceedings.
During Covid-19 restrictions tribunal hearing were moved to video or telephone hearings. Through funding we have purchased video equipment and conference telephones.
